The project is the latest carried out by Ferrey & Mennim in their partnership with the University of York which has seen a number of alterations and upgrading of this Grade I Listed building.
The requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act have been successfully accommodated by the University in an extensive project involving installation of two lifts, ramped access, automatic door opening devices, accessible toilet accommodation and other associated works. This has opened up the first floor spaces for use by the University to enable receptions and entertainments to be provided to the public and patrons alike.
In conjunction with this, the University is now able to offer full access to most areas of the building for staff and students with accessibility problems.
The major phase of the project was completed in March 2006 at an approximate construction cost of £150,000.
