Scarborough Castle Great Keep Access Platform

The first in a number of similar interventions into the historic landscape of the headland for English Heritage as part of the Scarborough Single Regeneration Budget Castle Pride Initiative.
An elevated timber access deck and staircase allowing safe public access to the interior of the keep for the appreciation of the scale and quality of the mediaeval spaces, for an understanding of the original horizontal sub-division of the keep and a location for interpretation of the keep architecture.
The design of the platform structure and the palette of materials developed on this project established the design style for the later installations.

The project was completed in 1999
Client: English Heritage
Structural Engineer: DAC Wood
