St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall, Orkney

Andrew Boyce succeeded Richard Carr-Archer as Architect to St. Magnus Cathedral in January 2004.
A quinquennial inspection system has been in place since 1984 and a 25-year programme of repairs and renewals was instigated, with contracts phased at approximately 15-month intervals. By this process, more than half of the exterior walls, windows and roofs have now been repaired or renewed.
Recent phases of work have included:

Repair of nave and quire glass,
Repair of quire, south aisle stonework,
Repair of nave, south aisle stonework.
Repair of south transept masonry and renewal of Rose window and glazing.
New toilet extension to north choir aisle, completed spring 2005.
