A joint project with the Whitworth Co-Partnership of Bury St Edmunds to reorder and refurbish the school chapel at Uppingham, originally designed by George Edmund Street, to provide increased capacity and a new focal point.
The solution was to move the altar to the south wall, reducing distances to the furthest pews in the North Chapel extension(1960’s) and West End.
New Choir pews were provided, moved further West so that the Choir can better lead the worship, as is common practice at the school.
New and refurbished/adapted shorter pews help to give greater flexibility to the space.
The marvellous East end mosaic has been revealed and restored, new flooring in the central area heightens the focus.
A complete relighting scheme was designed by DPA lighting.
The project was completed in 2005
